Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Geared Up for High-Octane Return at Austrian GP in Spielberg
The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team is set to reignite the 2025 MotoGP season this weekend at the picturesque and high-speed Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Known for its electrifying atmosphere and stunning Alpine backdrop, the Austrian GP marks the beginning of a packed second half of the championship, featuring five double-header rounds – ten races – in just 13.5 weeks.
Team star Fabio Quartararo arrives in Austria ninth in the championship standings, having combined rest and intense training during the summer break. While Spielberg’s long straights and braking zones aren’t traditionally Yamaha territory, the Frenchman has proven his prowess here with podium finishes in 2019, 2021, and a strong second place in 2022.
Meanwhile, teammate Álex Rins, currently 18th in the standings, also maximised his summer with family time, gym sessions, and multi-discipline track practice. The Spaniard has tasted podium glory in Spielberg before, securing a third place in Moto2 in 2016, and will be aiming for a breakthrough MotoGP result at the circuit this weekend.
The Spielberg circuit, originally built in 1969 and redesigned in 1996, is a technical challenge with just 11 turns – three left and eight right – and a longest straight of 810m. It rewards top speed, acceleration, and braking stability, making setup precision critical. Since its return to the MotoGP calendar in 2016, it has delivered some of the sport’s most dramatic races, even hosting back-to-back GPs in 2020 and 2021.
Team Director Massimo Meregalli expressed confidence ahead of the Austrian GP:
“We know Spielberg may not be our strongest track on paper, but the team is fully recharged and determined to give it everything. The energy, the scenery, and the passionate fans make this round special for everyone.”
Quartararo echoed the fighting spirit:
“We know our strengths and weaknesses, and we’ll keep pushing to improve. The goal is to give 100% in every race, starting here in Austria.”
For Álex Rins, qualifying performance and braking stability will be the weekend’s main focus:
“Spielberg’s hard braking zones demand precision, so we’ll be working hard to maximise performance where it counts.”
As engines roar back to life in the Austrian hills, all eyes will be on the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP riders to see if they can turn determination into podium success in one of the most thrilling rounds of the season.
